Smoothies are fantastic.
They are easy, quick, and tasty.
They are customizable, portable and versatile.
Smoothies are a great way to get a lot of nutrition in one shot; antioxidants, fiber, vitamins and minerals. A typical smoothie starts with your favorite liquid (water, milk, milk alternative), often a handful or two of greens (kale, spinach, collards), a cup of your favorite fruit (blueberries, strawberries, banana) and ice. Here are a few things that you could add to your smoothie to customize it to your bodies specific needs:
If your goal is to DETOX add:
MegaFood Purify Booster: is loaded with burdock root and dandelion root to support liver health and the ability to process and remove toxins from the body.
Dandelion leaves & roots: The leaves are packed with vitamins A, B, C and E and are rich in calcium, magnesium potassium, manganese, iron and zinc. While the roots can help the liver to eliminate toxins, decrease bloating and soothe an upset stomach.
Parsley & Cilantro: These two herbs help flush the kidneys and clear heavy metals from the body.
Spirulina: A blue-green algae that is full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It is a great source of chlorophyll, which has beneficial detoxifying qualities, omega-3 fatty acids, iron, B vitamins (including B-12), vitamins A, C, D, E, and K, calcium, chromium, potassium, copper, iron, manganese, phosphorus, selenium, and magnesium. It also is a high source of protein and thought to have immune-boosting properties.
Wheatgrass powder/juice: Wheatgrass contains all the essential amino acids. It contains many trace vitamins A, B, and E, as well as, calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron and zinc. Wheatgrass also has high amounts of chlorophyll; which is essential to purify the blood, and remove toxic metals stored in the tissue. Wheatgrass can help eczema, improve digestion, helps you sleep better, and help reduce high blood pressure.
If you need ENERGY add:
Matcha Green Tea: Although there is caffeine in all green tea, the energy boost received from Matcha is mostly due to its unique combination of other nutrients. The increased endurance from a bowl of Matcha Green Tea can last up to 6 hours and because of the effects of L-Theanine, Matcha drinkers experience none of the usual side-effects of stimulants such as nervousness and hypertension.
Maca- We won't repeat ourselves, but you can find out all the benefits of maca here, in a different blog post. Energy, hormone balance, increased libido and more!
MegaFood Daily Energy- Increase your energy and capacity with stimulant free beetroot powder plus botanicals. This combination can also help you maintain healthy blood sugar levels.
If you need to BOOST your IMMUNE SYSTEM add:
Olive Leaf: Research suggests that olive leaf compounds may enhance the body’s efforts to fight invading organisms via two different processes. First, they appear to stimulate phagocytosis (the process in which immune system cells engulf and destroy invading organisms), and second by interfering with the ability of bacteria and viruses to replicate themselves and cause infection.
Powdered Greens like Amazing Grass Green SuperFood: Powdered greens are a great way to get concentrated antioxidant into your smoothie. Amazing Grass' Green SuperFood has 40,000 ORAC. (ORAC score is the products ability to fight free radicals).
MegaFood Booster Vitamin C: A whole foods powder of fresh organic oranges, blueberries and cranberries mixed with botanicals to protect and strength your immune system.
If you want to fight INFLAMMATION add:
MegaFood Boosters Daily Turmeric: This powder combines turmeric, black cherry, black pepper and vitamin c in a whole foods form. It can help maintain a healthy whole body inflammatory response and provide exercise/stress recovery support.
Barleans Omega Swirls: Essential fatty acids are beneficial to every system in the body but they are key to keeping inflammation at bay. These swirls are a great way to add a hint of deliciously flavored omegas to your smoothie. With flavors like Key Lime, Pina Colada, Mango-Peach, Mocha Java and more, you simply can't go wrong.
Hemp, chia and/or flax seeds: each of these seeds have various specific benefits, but they all offer a boost of protein, fiber, omega 3s and GLA. Omega 3 and GLA are both linked to helping with arthritis, joint mobility, and many other benefits
Spices: Ginger, turmeric, cloves, chamomile and cinnamon are all natural anti-inflammatory.
The great thing about nearly every one of these smoothie boosters is that they do more than just the category they are listed in above. Wheatgrass may be detoxing, but it is also immune boosting! The seeds are anti-inflammatory but they also contain properties to help naturally boost your energy and endurance. We definitely would not recommend adding all these ingredients into one smoothie - you probably wouldn't get it down - but we do suggest adding a few to meet your personal needs for the day.
